Personal Work

I’ve been trying, more and more, to produce content outside of work. Whether it be participating in Game Jams, making games in Unreal or just bringing small ideas to life, I’ve found I have seen more growth the more I explore my own ideas.

Kickflip Animation

Inspired by Samarria Brevard and Mariah Duran and my own love of skating. The trick that constantly eludes me but is so beautiful — the Kickflip.

Raphael Training Combo

TMNT was my childhood and as soon as I saw this brilliant Raphael rig I knew I had to do an animation with it.

Hostage Escape - Stylized Wick Animation

For a long time I’ve pictured this sort of animation in my head and never done it, but I finally gave it. Making it in my free time was taxing and I definitely ran out of steam juggling life and this. But acting it out in the living room and making it a reality was a blast. It felt good to make things move again.

Furo - Indie Game Development

Codenamed “Furo”, which I thought meant flow but actually means “bath” in Japanese. The game has nothing to do with baths, but it’s too late now. Furo is my exploration in to making a top down game. Still in progress, I hope to create a playable level soon.

Furo - The Hero

Furo - The Hero

My game, code-named “Furo”, needed a Hero to be face of the game. So I spent quite a long time and hammered this robot out, and then integrated it in. It was a detour from development but I’m really happy with the result.

Touge Drift

Touge Drift

One of my game ideas has long been to create a meditative drifting game that explores the feeling of drifting through the Touge mountain roads of Japan. I created this stylized concept to show my idea, and spent significant time working on a vehicle controller with drifting in Unreal. Ultimately I had to put the project on hold, but one day I hope to revisit the idea.

Air Badger - Halifax Game Jam 2018

Intended to be a StarFox Roguelike style game, like most Game Jams we didn’t have enough time to see all of our ideas through. I created all of the art and UI, with Simon McIlhargey programming, and Rob Butler programming and doing Sound Design. It was tons of fun, and a very good team.

Glow Party - Ludum Dare Entry

My first solo attempt at a Ludum Dare resulted in this, my game called ‘Glow Party’. The theme was the more you have, the worse it gets. So I played with the idea that the more light you had, the easier it was to be seen, and the more difficult things became. You need light to navigate, but being in the light attracts the security system bots.

This was the beginning of me really diving in to Unreal, and learning on the fly. I’ve since embraced the Blueprint system and had huge moments of joy every time I can make something work.
